The Road is the story of five inmates who have been released under condition for a week from a half-closed prison. Yoksul ve ezilmiş insanlar, feodal yapı, feodal düşünce ve koşullar altında yaşamaktadırlar. Mahkumlardan Süleyman, Mevlüt, Ömer, Memed Salih ve Seyit Ali Fırat'ın "yitik yaşamları"na tanıklık eder. Dolayısıyla, konusu mahkumlar aracılığıyla anlatılan hikayenin sunduğu panorama, asıl olarak, ülkenin "içerisi ve dışarısıyla 45 milyonluk bir hapishane" olduğu gerçeğinin altını çizer.
